Low-Carb Diet Tips: 5 Ways to Cut Back on Carb and Slim Down

Cutting back on carbs doesn’t really have to be that painful and stressful. All you’ve got to know is what carbs are good to eat and what are the ones that you should ditch. To make your carb cut down a lot easier, here are five simple ways on how you can still enjoy your carbs, but in moderation.

1.       Swap Fruits for Veggies. Without a doubt, fruits are healthy and are good for you, but these refreshing snacks also contain a lot of sugar, specifically fructose and glucose. So if you’re working on cutting back your carb consumption, swapping fruits like apples, bananas, grapes and pears with healthy veggies like celery, cucumber and peppers would be a good move.

2.       Mind Your Condiments. They may not look like it, but some common condiments like ketchup and barbecue sauce actually contain a fair amount of carbohydrates. In fact, just a tablespoon of barbecue sauce already has about seven grams of carbs. So, further cut back on your carb intake by doctoring up your food with various spices and organic seasonings like mustard, pepper, flavoured vinegar and fresh lemon juice to add great flavours into your meals minus the carb.

3.       Watch on Your Drinks. Other than the foods you eat, you should also take a closer look on your drinks. Your booze might help you relax after a tiring day, but it won’t do you any good if you’re trying to slim down. A good alternative would be sticking to clear alcohol like vodka and squeeze in some lemon, or a slice of cucumber for a healthier and more refreshing flavour. If you’re serious about ditching your booze, then the best drink you’d have would be water.

4.       Abstain from Sugary Snacks. Although it’s fine to indulge every now and then, the best known way to have an effective carb cleanse is to abstain from any kind of desserts. If you’re craving for something sweet after dinner, opt for a cup of hot tea or a glass of iced green tea with almond milk. These drinks will surely make you feel refreshed, while quelling your cravings.

5.       Suggest Ways to Prepare Your Meals. If you’re going to dine out, don’t hesitate to ask your waiter to prepare your meal exactly the way to want them to be. For instance, you can ask them to double up on the veggies instead of potatoes, or place the sauce on the side. If you’re proactive enough, you’ll learn that eating out while watching your carb isn’t that difficult after all.

Cutting back on carbs has been a proven way to slim down. However, this doesn’t mean that you should completely ditch on the carbs. Just practise these carb cut down tricks and you’ll still get to enjoy the good carbs without getting the extra pounds.
